Birding
More than 250 species of birds have been
sighted here. The bird blind near the Solar Building is frequented by cardinals,
woodpeckers, finches, titmice, sparrows, and many other colorful species.
Along the morning bird walk bluebirds can be seen in season. Consult the
log of bird species in the Solar Building for reported sightings.
Bald eagles, ospreys and owls, great blue
herons and great egrets, ring-necked pheasants and wild turkey all have
been seen in the park along with pileated woodpeckers, northern shrikes
and other rarities. Numerous bird blinds offer the opportunity to view
birds up close.

Nature Center bird blind
- North side of Nature Center VIA short trail. Mostly songbirds and woodpeckers.
Owl boxes provide the opportunity to view mostly eastern screech owls.

Duck blind - South side
of Nature Center along paved trail south of bridge. Mostly waterfowl. Cormorants,
ducks, geese, herons and egrets.

Solar Building lookout
- Inside the Solar Building. Spotting scope looks south to lake. Mostly
songbirds. Purple martins, hummingbirds and waterfowl also possible.

Chapman Road bridge overlook
- A variety of waterfowl, migrating birds and songbirds can be viewed from
the bridge.
